Why you should get married in Scotland

There are so many reasons why we think our beautiful country should be in the running for YOUR wedding location. Be warned; there’ll be no mentions of haggis, nessie, red hair or tartan. Well, except for in the context of that warning. Scotland is so much more than it’s stereotypes. We are biased but think it is the BEST place for your romantic story.

It’s hard to beat that Scottish atmosphere. Come rain or shine, we are spoiled with some of the most epic & breathtaking scenery. It’s one of the most romantic places in the world >> don’t just take our word for it <<. Scotland has it all; golden beaches, jaw dropping mountain peaks, magical forestry and stunningly peaceful lochs that will melt your heart. It’s why so many in-love couples run away and elope in the Scottish wilderness and we can’t say we blame them. Which brings us neatly on to our next point

logistics of getting married in Scotland

There is a lot of freedom when getting married in Scotland. You can pick when, where & how. It’s much more flexible than anywhere in the UK and even places outside of the UK get left behind in the dust of Scotland’s progressive wedding offerings.

Your ideal wedding day can be realised in Scotland, it’s not a question of what you can have as is more of, well, what do you want? You can get married anywhere in Scotland so long as your ceremony is conducted by an approved celebrant – humanists are our favourite and we even had a humanist ceremony ourselves back in 2013. If you do go for a humanist celebrant, you can really make the ceremony your own; religious, personal, inclusive – any elements you want to include, you can! That’s the real beauty of marrying in Scotland – the freedom to create the exact ceremony that you want.

contemporary wedding venues for creative couples in Glasgow

Yes those Scottish landscapes are hot shit BUT but but the bustling Scottish city life is not to be forgotten. As we are 2 Glasgow born & raised kids, it would be terribly remiss of us not to give a massive shout out to getting hitched in Glasgow. We got married in the West End of Glasgow for many reasons; it means a lot to us, we grew up nearby & lived there for a spell. The selling point was it was super handy for all our family & friends to get to and get home from. Sold! Glasgow is full to the brim with excellent modern wedding venues. The people of Glasgow ARE the friendliest >> yes we are << and you are gonna have a belter of a knees up if you want. Check out our alternative Glasgow wedding venue guide >> here <<.

Alternative & unique wedding in Glasgow’s West End // Cottiers wedding photography

We’ve said it before – Glasgow weddings melt our hearts. Amy & Sam had the sweetest wedding at Cottiers in the West End. They also happen to be a right little pair of cutie pies & were a DREAM to work with. Let’s not forget Sam’s uber talented sister who treated them to lots of amazing floral eyewonders; Lisa of Floral Menagerie ALWAYS knocks it out the park with her work.

testimonial //

"The day would not have been remembered exactly as it was without them. We genuinely believe that no other photographers (or videographers) could have captured our day for what it was in the same way. They got to the very heart of us, our love, our friendship & our day and they showed it in all its glory. They just got it & they just got us."
